PeeWee Harris Percy Keese Fitzhugh 9781491208557 Books

Author Fitzhugh wrote a number of book series featuring different scouts from "Troop1, Bridgeboro, N.J.". Pee Wee was featured in a twelve book series that ran from 1922 through 1930. This particular book was the second in the series. While the other scouts from the other series have been largely forgotten, Pee Wee endures. That may be because of his honest appeal, and it may be because Pee Wee was successfully transitioned to his own "Boys Life" comic strip that continues to run to this day.

Pee Wee is a little guy with boundless energy, an active imagination, and a total commitment to the values of Scouting. Quick to draw wrong conclusions he gets himself into and then out of all sorts of scrapes and adventures, his success usually turning on his Scouting skills and plain stick-to-itness. In this volume Pee Wee falls asleep in the wrong car, is accidentally kidnapped when the car is driven away, and then decides, based on snippets of conversation he overhears, that the people driving away with him are criminals on the run. Complications, action, and slapstick ensue.

These books are appealing as historical documents, since they are set almost 100 years ago and are loaded with details about day to day life. (The car Pee Wee is in has to be "sparked" with the "ignition" turned on.) They are appealing as funny, high action, whiz-bang adventures. They are also appealing because Pee Wee is a regular kid who always tries to do the right thing, but without any preachy, bland, or tedious moralizing. This is all Scout Law, Scout Oath, and Scout Promise stuff, and that's all fresher and more relevant than you might think.

This is certainly a fine find for an older former Scout who'd like to take a trip down memory lane, (I remember Pee Wee quite clearly from the mid-60's), but it could very well also appeal to a modern middle grade reader. The prose is a bit formal and sometimes a touch dry, but Fitzhugh has a subtle sense of humor and writes Pee Wee as a bit on the cheeky side. The pace is a lot faster than I remembered and the plots are clever. Certainly if I had a young Scout who liked to read I'd give one of these Pee Wee books a try.

PeeWee Harris Percy Keese Fitzhugh 9781491208557 Books Reviews

one of my favorite children's book
I haven't read this book as of this posting.
This was a 30+ collection of adventure stories that I read the whole series 4 times as a young boy and still remember the excitement aroused( 40 + years ago ). The stories are about a young boy and his adventures as a boy scout ,solving crimes . I recommend them for any young boy .
These books are not what I expected, but they are hilarious ! They are about a really short boy scout who is always making mistakes .
Warning Do not read Pee wee harris unless you want every other book you have ever read to seem like a waste of time. I read Lord of the Rings (obviously) I thought it was the best book ever written. But then, enter Pee Wee. He's three feet tall and could defeat middle earth with a merit badge. Once I read Pee Wee, I got every other single Pee Wee Harris book I could get my hands on. Why they haven't made a Pee Wee Harris movie is beyond me. I tried contacting Disney but it just didnt work. I almost broke down when I saw that five stars was the most you could give to Pee Wee Harris. It feels wrong to give that few of stars to such an awesome book. Please spread the word about this young scout Pee Wee so the amazing author will consider writing more Pee Wee books. I just know there is more to tell. Pee Wee, may your legacy live forever!
Pee Wee Harris Adrift was better than any book I have ever read! There was only one book that even came close to surpassing the awesomeness of this ingeneous novel. That book was Pee Wee Harris. I love this series so much. I cannot express how much I love Pee Wee Harris. I have composed this masterpiece of a song to show how much I appreciate Pee Wee. (sung to the tune of I'm proud to be an American.) "Im proud to have read of the Harris, of whose first name is Pee Wee. And im proud to say that I have read books one through thirty-three. And I'd gladly stand up, next to Pee Wee Harris oh yeah yay! If I had to rate this book I'd saaaaaaaaaaaaay, oh it deserves an A." I know the song is good, but it cannot compare with the awesomeness of Pee Wee Harris. Please, as I have, let the author know you want him to write more Pee Wee's. I was crushed when i learned that the last one he wrote was written in 1930. Pee Wee Harris, may your legacy live forever!
